We are a party with a glorious past. We are the party of the future, It is for us to ensure that it holds out hope for each and every Indian. That is our calling and our obligation. Together we will build on our strengths. Together we will honour our responsibilities. Together we will strive our utmost to prove worthy of the trust and confidence that the people continue to repose in us.
Over the last seven and a half years or so, our Government has strived for high economic growth along with inclusion. The resources generated from the high economic growth that we have achieved have been ploughed back in massive programmes for inclusion, especially in the fields of rural development, education and health. Our development strategy lays special attention to ensuring that the fruits of development are shared equitably.
We speak of a statutory Lok Pal but our discussions cease at the point of its accountability to the people and the risk that it might itself become corrupt. Why not elevate the debate and fortify the Lok Pal by making it a Constitutional body accountable to Parliament like the Election Commission of India? I feel the time has come for us to seriously consider this idea. Laws and institutions are not enough. A representative, inclusive and accessible democracy is central to fighting corruption.
