Efforts that started three years and three months ago have reached its final lap. The time has come when we need to dispassionately take stock as to what India has achieved out of this Indo-US civil nuclear agreement. Despite nay Sayers, prophets of doom, what India has been able to achieve is probably both unparallel and something which should be regarded as milestone in independent India's history.
The Prime Minister also met Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari in New York and had good discussion with him. Both of them said they want full normalization of the relationship. And India and Pakistan have decided to trade across LOC which will begin on October 21. With this, the LOC will become Letter of Commerce. This will open up a new era in our relationship.

Shri Manish Tewari said our attention has been drawn to a very disturbing news item of unfortunate demise of 49 infants, less than one year old, while they were being subjected to clinical trials of new drug therapies. It seems that 4,142 infants were put through this testing process at the department of pediatrics in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

The Prime Minister thanked President Bush for his role in taking forward the civil nuclear initiative and the decision by the Nuclear Suppliers Group to adjust its guidelines to enable full civil nuclear cooperation between India and the international community.
